About Me

imageI could hear the wheels turning, as they say, but also hear the emotions churning as well. Letting go of your old (work) self is not as important as getting hold of the skills and abilities that you employed while functioning as such--skills and abilities that you still have. List them. Treasure them. Doodle down a half-dozen likes and leave the dislikes for another day. Doodle down your can-dos; leave the can't dos sit out there out of mind and off the page. Doodle down your strengths; and leave the weaknesses off to the side.

I sometimes use a metaphor of Breaking Connections and Making Dots. You have to break connections with your old familiar work life. But remember lines are made up of an infinite number of dots. Don't try to count, or account for, them all. Make some new dots, and your true self really does connect them, usually without you (without your conscious mind) until later and then we say, Aha.

I really encourage you to jot down simple, short answers to the three questions,
- Who am I?
- What do you like to do?
- Where are you going?

Start with who you are today. And what you like to do right now. And where are you going tomorrow. The great mantra of life is made up of simple everyday things.
